Are You The Same In Real Life As You Are In Your Blog?

Do you think that you portray yourself the same way in your blog as you are in real life? I’m sure your answers are all over the board on this, depending on why you have your blog in the first place. I think I’m pretty much the same in person as I am here…I might complain a little more here than in normal life, but that’s kind of the benefit of having this blog that hardly anyone I know reads. I don’t like to be viewed as a complainer, but we all know that sometimes we have to get things off our chest, and what better way than to the internet filled with anonymity (for some of us)?

I know that Isabel had a post that talked about one of the reasons she started her blog was so that she could have a place to get her complaints out without people "thinking any less of her." I started my blog to keep a somewhat daily diary of my kids’ lives because I’m horrible at recording those “precious moments” otherwise. So since that’s the main reason, I don’t really have any need to pretend to be someone I’m not. I’m pretty much the same person whether you’re reading about me or having lunch with me…I think. If any of my friends do read this and would like to confirm or challenge that statement please speak up, because I would like to know the truth.

So what about all of you? If I were to meet you for lunch, or in a bookstore, or in Target, would I be able to relate to you instantly because you are the same “you” that you are online? Or would I think that I was talking to your cyber twin?

I would like to think that I am the same. I mean, I pretty much talk and feel like I write, so I am the same.

Great question! I sure hope I am. Although, when blogging, communicating what you are trying to say is much tougher when they can't hear HOW you are saying it. Since I tend to be VERY sarcastic, it's hard to know if someone reading a post will understand that. Even this comment probably doesn't make sense. All that to say that I hope I am the same guy outside as I am in cyberspace.

I think I am the same person in blogland that I am outside of it. You would probably realize that I talk alot more outside of blogland. Mostly because I just haven't had time recently to blog much and my hubby reads sometimes and he already thinks I'm crazy, lol, no need to reinforce that. But, I'm not fake on my blog. I don't pretend like my life is perfect, that my kids are perfect, that I am perfect, because none of that is true.

This has been a fun topic.

Yeah, I'm the same. Only in real life I have more of a double chin!

I like to think so, except maybe more scatterbrained. What I like about writing is having the opportunity to really think about what you want to say before you say it, without the "ums" and "uhs."

I am the same in real life as I am on my blog, but one difference is that when I talk sometimes I say things all out of order. I might tell you something and then tell you the piece of info you need to make it make sense after that. On my blog, I read it and then move the sentences to where they would make more sense so it goes in order. Otherwise, it's all me.

I'm definitely the same in my blog as in real life. My family and friends read my blog (but not my husband, go figure) and they would totally bust my chops if I weren't myself.

I would hope I am the same person, But I honestly think I am a bit more reserved on my blog then in real life..
There are a lot of things I don't discuss for the privacy & security of my family.(Sad, mainly because it is the world we live in today)

But- In real life I am more open and comfortable talking about family things & so on..I am definitely a girlie girl & I'm not sure if that comes across very much ever on my blog too much! LOL!

Great posts you got going on lately lady!!

I am what I write!! Totally the same person..I do agree with you though..I do think I tend to complain more on here than in real life (I hope anyway) but other than that...what you read is so me!

I think I'm the same. I mean I write with a different "voice" on the blog than real life but I'm still the same. I think I may be a little less reserved on the blog because I feel that it's my place and if anyone doesn't like it then don't read.

I do know that I complain a bit more than normal.

I'm the same in real life with two differences-

On my blog I am HOT. And skinny. Well maybe not skinny since I wrote how much I weigh but I am HOT!

In real life I say "dude" an embarassing amount of times in any given day. I figure it's better than "you a**hole".

This is a really interesting topic to me! I can see how some people would create another identity for themselves online, where they can pretend to have the perfect life.

But I don't read any blogs like that.

My blog is my diary. It's my favorite moments of motherhood, it's my struggles with my marriage, it's my silly moments, my hormonal moments. It's really whatever goes through my head.

And all the blogs I read are like that too. Most of them are moms too. It's just what I gravitate to! And I love that I get to read about real people. I find that so much more interesting than 90 percent of what's on TV.
